Since 1991, the Lexington Conferences on Aging and Developmental Disabilities have been attended by more than 1200 people from 40 states and six countries. From the first conference, aging and older people with developmental disabilities and their families have been participants and presenters. Featured presentations have been given by Steven Moss from Great Britian, Deborah McFadden, Commissioner, Health & Human Services, Administration on Developmental Disabilities, Edward Ansello, Virginia Commonwealth University, Center on Aging, Doreen Croser, Executive Director of the American Association on Mental Retardation, Stan Herr, University of Maryland, College of Law, Robert Gettings, Executive Director, the National Association of State MR/DD Directors, and Tamar Heller and Tia Neilis, University of Illinois at Chicago, Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Aging and Mental Retardation.
Leading edge information has been shared by Matt Janicki, Arthur Dalton, and Jim Stone on an annual basis. The Conference offers hands-on information sharing among direct service providers, family members, researchers, policymakers, aging people with developmental disabilities and the opportunity to network and establish on-going contacts and access to technical assistance by people who are working daily to provide options and choices to the aging and older population with disabilities across the country and around the world.
